HIM Specialist, Health Information Management Baptist Jacksonville

Baptist Health is hiring a HIM Specialist to join our Health Information Management team for Baptist Jacksonville (Downtown) Jacksonville, FL. This is a full-time day shift opportunity.

The Health Information Management team supports the accuracy, accessibility, privacy, and integrity of patient health information. The HIM Specialist performs a variety of functions, including Release of Information (ROI), scanning medical records, and deficiency tracking to ensure patient information is processed accurately and timely while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

• Process requests for medical information from patients and continued-care requestors, ensuring appropriate authorization and adherence to HIPAA guidelines.
• Ensure timely and accurate access to medical information while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Retrieve, prepare, and scan medical information into the electronic medical record.
• Review scanned documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, legibility, and data integrity.
• Review appropriate documents within Emergency Department and outpatient encounters for physician completion.
• Track outstanding documentation deficiencies and follow up to support timely completion in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records and follow established Health Information Management policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

HIM Specialist

Experience:

• Required: 1–2 years of customer service experience.
• Required: 1–2 years of clerical experience.
• Preferred: Experience in Health Information Management, medical records, or a healthcare setting.

HIM Specialist Education & Credential Requirements:

• Required: High School Diploma.
• Preferred: Certified Coding Associate (CCA).
• Preferred: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
• Preferred: Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P).
• Preferred: Certified Documentation Improvement Professional (CDIP).
• Preferred: Certified Health Document Specialist (CHDS).
• Preferred: Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS).
• Preferred: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
• Preferred: Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA).

This role will perform a variety of tasks:
In ROI processing requests for medical information for patient and continued care requestors with proper authorization by consistently following HIPAA guidelines for timely access;
In Scanning retrieving, prepping, and scanning medical information into the electronic medical record, and ensuring data integrity of the scanned documents;
In Deficiency Tracking reviewing all appropriate documents in ED and outpatient encounters for physician completion in the electronic medical record per regulatory guidelines.
