The Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons (NVRC) is seeking an Outreach & Community Education Manager to lead community outreach and education efforts throughout Northern Virginia, with primary responsibility for programs and contract deliverables in Fairfax and Arlington counties.

This is a highly community-facing position with a particular focus on adults aging into hearing loss and individuals who are hard of hearing or late-deafened. We are looking for someone who understands that hearing loss involves much more than hearing—it can affect communication, relationships, independence, access, and connection to the community.

The Outreach & Community Education Manager will provide educational presentations and trainings, conduct hearing screenings and mentoring, provide information and referrals, build community partnerships, represent NVRC at community events and meetings, and serve as the primary planner and coordinator of NVRC’s annual Celebrate Communication event.

The Manager will also oversee NVRC’s Fairfax County and Arlington County outreach contracts, including monitoring deliverables, maintaining program data and documentation, and preparing required reports. These responsibilities are central to the position.

Employment Options

NVRC is accepting applications for this position under either of the following employment structures. Both options pay $25.00 per hour.

Full-Time — 40 hours per week

The full-time Outreach & Community Education Manager will perform the full scope of the position’s responsibilities, including conducting hearing screenings associated with NVRC’s Fairfax County and Arlington County outreach contracts.

Benefits:
Full-time employees are eligible for NVRC’s full benefits package.

Part-Time — 25 hours per week

The part-time Outreach & Community Education Manager will retain responsibility for managing NVRC’s Fairfax County and Arlington County outreach contracts and the core outreach and community education responsibilities of the position. Hearing screenings will be shared with a qualified NVRC contractor who will provide additional screening and peer-support capacity.

Benefits:
Employer-paid health insurance is not included with the part-time position; however, the employee may elect to purchase coverage through NVRC’s health insurance plan.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, comfortable speaking in front of groups, able to work independently, and genuinely enjoys building relationships with individuals and community partners.

Lived experience with late-onset hearing loss as a hard-of-hearing or late-deafened individual is strongly preferred.

Candidates should have strong communication and presentation skills, the ability to manage multiple programs and deadlines, and comfort working with older adults, caregivers, professionals, community organizations, and the general public.

Experience with community outreach, education, presentations, hearing screenings, hearing assistive technology, grant or contract reporting, aging services, disability services, healthcare, or nonprofit organizations is especially valuable.
