Main Purpose of JobThe main purpose of this full-time Environmental Health Specialist Trainee position will be to assist in the promotion of all aspects of Environmental Health while enforcing all applicable State and Local Environmental Health laws and regulations.
The Environmental Health Specialist Trainee will be responsible for monitoring and engaging with the delegated programs from the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Maryland Department of Health to the Talbot County Health Department's Office of Environmental Health. Programs include, but are not necessarily limited to the Land Development Program, Building Permits Program, Open Burning Program, Well Program, Transient Non Community Water Supply Program, Food Service Facility Program, Swimming Pools and Spas Program, Rabies Program, Beaches, Short Term Rental, and Sanitary Survey Programs.
This position will be responsible for viewing and interaction with, as well as the facilitation of permits on Pat Trac/Open Gov and modernization of records.
This position supports the mission of Talbot County Health Department by which is to promote and improve the health and safety of Talbot County residents and visitors by ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the environment, water and food through its operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS- At the time of hire, candidates for positions in this classification must possess a certificate of eligibility to be licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
