Who is Blue Dot Impact?
We're a philanthropic startup building the workforce that protects humanity
. Since 2022, we've trained over 10,000 people in AI safety and biosecurity. Our alumni work at Anthropic, Deep Mind, the UK AI Security Institute, and dozens of other organisations shaping how transformative technologies affect the world. Each month, we train over 1,000 people and deploy over $1M in grants to accelerate the most exceptional people coming through our pipelines. We're a small team headquartered in San Francisco.
We've raised $34M from Coefficient Giving.
Governments and other powerful institutions need exceptional people who understand where advanced AI is going, and who make decisions that steer AI towards better outcomes for humanity. These institutions are starved for talent. Many of the people making AI policy decisions today have no understanding of the technology, the risks it poses, or what governments could do to steer it.
Our Frontier AI Governance course is changing that. So far, 2,200 people have taken part in the course, and the wider Blue Dot alumni community includes 206 staff at frontier AI companies, 147 staff at UK, US, EU and international government institutions, 282 staff at advocacy orgs and think-tanks, and 274 staff at technical AI safety research orgs.
The course gives people a rigorous introduction to the field, motivates them to pivot their career, and helps us identify the most exceptional people who we then steer towards the most impactful opportunities. You'll own the course end to end: who the course is for, how we reach them, who gets in, what they learn, and how we accelerate the most exceptional participants.
Whatyou'll doSet the course and talent strategy
- Determine which people the field most needs, which audiences the course should prioritise, and where the selection bar should sit.
- Develop the course strategy, including its positioning, learning outcomes, applicant pipeline, selection, talent identification and the most valuable routes after the course.
- Interview governance experts and hiring managers to understand what exceptional candidates need to know and which talent gaps matter most.
- Find promising people who could make a big difference in AI governance and convince them to join the course.
- Build partnerships with influential people and talent-dense networks, and encourage referrals.
- Write publicly about frontier AI governance, field-building, and the course, so that you increase your credibility and build your profile as a domain expert and trusted voice.
- Judge potential from noisy evidence, including applications, course work, discussions and one-to-one conversations.
- Build trusted relationships with the strongest participants, understand their real constraints and give advice they act on.
- Connect exceptional people to roles, fellowships, funding and collaborators, including recommending career-transition grants when funding is the blocker.
- Own the curriculum and keep it current as the field changes.
- Turn difficult and contested governance questions into excellent learning experiences, so that participants develop their own takes.
- Write new blog posts when no suitable resource exists explaining important concepts, or commission writing from others.
- Own the participant experience and ensure strong participants complete the course and leave ready to take meaningful action.
- Build a bench of excellent facilitators who challenge participants and identify top talent.
- Work alongside Blue Dot's course operations team. Note that you’re not expected to do course operations yourself as we have a dedicated team for that — your time goes to strategy, curriculum and people.
