We’re seeking a relationship-builder who thrives on forging connections to advance our mission. As a talent development organization, we source top talent nationwide—from state capitols and think tanks to advocacy groups, the private sector, and DC.

You’ll need to galvanize emerging leaders to join our fellowships and policy networks, while navigating political, ideological, and personality nuances with creativity and persistence.

The ideal candidate has an intrinsic drive to establish meaningful connections, but is very strategic in sequencing outreach efforts to the “right” people at the right time.

In this role, you’ll craft strategic outreach plans, map relationships with allied institutions, policymakers and policy influencers, and closely collaborate with RA’s placement team to position alumni in high-impact policy roles. This requires strong judgment, the ability to read political dynamics, and the ability to identify key relationships in a state or region in order to enable effective recruitment and placement.

You’ll also work with our admissions staff to ensure we have the right mix of applications for each fellowship cohort to ensure a variety of experience levels, skill sets, and geographic representation. The goal is to have a running list of the best emerging talent to invite into our policy networks through our fellowships in key states. This position is being created after splitting a previous job into two distinct roles as the organization is growing.

You’ll expand your own network while engaging leading reformers nationwide. (For those familiar with Working Genius: we think this role may be ideal for those with strengths of Galvanizing and Discernment.)

This role will report to the Director of Admissions and Outreach. It can be executed virtually from anywhere in the United States.

• Lead nationwide outreach and recruitment, developing state-by-state plans
• Convene informal recruitment councils (state- or policy-specific) to identify emerging leaders
• Represent RA at key events, conduct trips to priority states, and attend biannual fly-in weekends
• Support content creation for Linked In recruitment campaigns
• Maintain Airtable CRM data on allies, relationships, and key states

Success in this role will be measured by:

• The strength of strategic relationships in key states and policy environments to Reformers Academy as a whole, not just to the one staffer
• Number of applications of talented emerging leaders from key states

The role has the potential to become a director of outreach, overseeing state or regional relationship managers in the future.

• High emotional intelligence and outgoing, relationship-oriented mindset. Ability to build trust quickly both in person and over Zoom
• Intrinsic drive for outreach and relationship-building, with ability to prioritize efforts, sequence engagement thoughtfully, and adapt based on results
• Comfort with travel, approximately 10-15%, as needed
