Position Overview

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking individuals to join our group of neuroscientists seeking to solve grand challenges in neuroscience, healthcare, and computing. The successful applicants will contribute to this effort by creating new AI/ML models to analyze large experimental and clinical datasets, as well as simulate brain molecules, cells, and circuits, to deepen our understanding of brain function. These efforts aim to accelerate the discovery of novel therapeutics and uncover new ways to harness biological principles for advancing computation, including neuromorphic computing.

Successful candidates will contribute to cutting-edge research and technology creation at the intersection of neuroscience and AI, with opportunities for innovation and collaboration across multiple disciplines. Candidates are expected to have experience in cutting edge AI technologies and their applications in healthcare.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop AI/ML Models:
    Create models for neuroscience and neuromorphic computing.
  • Simulate Brain Systems:
    Model brain molecules, cells, and circuits.
  • Analyze Diverse Data:
    Work with clinical, omics, and imaging data.
  • Advance Therapeutic Discovery:
    Apply AI to identify new treatments.
  • Develop Computational Tools:
    Build AI-powered neuroscience and educational tools.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines:
    Work with neuroscientists, clinicians, and engineers.
  • Publish Research Findings:
    Share results in journals and conferences.
  • Mentor and Train:
    Guide junior researchers and graduate students.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • AI/ML Expertise:
    Strong knowledge of advanced machine learning, deep learning, and AI techniques.
  • Programming

    Skills:

    Proficiency in Python, Tensor Flow, PyTorch, or similar frameworks.
  • MS or higher degree (PhD preferred) degree in Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field with demonstrated ability to implement and optimize AI/ML models for biomedical datasets.
Preferred Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Mathematical Modeling:
    Strong foundation in numerical modeling, graph theory, and statistics.
  • Algorithm Development:
    Ability to design and optimize AI/ML models for neuroscience.
  • Scientific Writing & Communication:
    Ability to publish research and present findings.
  • Basic knowledge of neuroscience
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a research-oriented environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Passion for exploring new concepts in AI and neuroscience
  • Experience with hardware acceleration techniques
  • Familiarity with computational neuroscience tools and libraries
  • Experience with large-scale clinical, omics, or imaging datasets.
