The Office of the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) of the United States Senate is looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Service Now Engineer. This role involves designing, improving, and supporting key applications on the Service Now platform. It is perfect for a Service Now specialist with strong expertise in CMDB, ITSM, EAM, and ITOM, which are vital to the Senate’s digital infrastructure.
You’ll collaborate directly with customers and end users to understand their business needs, improve processes, and deliver secure, high-quality solutions that support mission-critical operations. This is a unique opportunity to apply your Service Now expertise in a highly meaningful public service environment.
This role is located in Washington, D.C., with eligibility for hybrid work. You must be on site at least six times per month and be prepared to respond quickly to emergencies, work outside normal hours, or travel to other locations to support the Senate. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Responsibilities: The Administrative Systems team depends on the Senior Platform Engineer to support and enhance various custom and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications. This involves actively participating in the improvement and maintenance of multiple systems.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Service Now Configuration and Maintenance:
- Configure out-of-the-box functionality to meet customer requirements.
- Create and maintain forms, reports, views, workflows, groups, roles, dashboards, and scheduled reports.
- Assist with Service Now upgrades and provide best-practice recommendations.
- Software Development and Debugging:
- Participate in the entire software development life cycle, debugging and correcting defects.
- Implement and support CMDB, ITSM, ITAM, Knowledge Management, KPI reporting, dashboards, and permissions models—key components of asset and service operations.
- Ensure data quality and process reliability across asset life cycles and service delivery workflows.
- Ensure thorough quality control of all software development and modifications.
- Employ Agile Scrum methodologies in development activities.
- Customer Interaction and Support:
- Collaborate with customers to refine requirements, develop user stories, and implement solutions.
- Provide technical support for resolving system problems encountered in Service Now.
- Interact with customers to address technical issues and resolve conflicts.
- Documentation and Process Improvement:
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including user guides, procedures, and communication of enhancements and bugs.
- Assist in the design, creation, and cataloging of business process flows.
- Work with department representatives to identify and anticipate process improvement opportunities.
