The Claims Director, Property & CasualtyThe Claims Director, Property & Casualty is a senior level leader responsible for the execution and delivery of the US Claims strategy by developing, managing, and motivating engaged AVPs/Team Mangers. This person combines excellent technical claims handling, people management, and leadership skills. Claims Directors are managers of managers who provide overall leadership across our general liability teams. This person also:
- Leads, motivates and develops Team AVPs overseeing and delivering on customer service and results;
- Responsible for delivery of Key Performance Indicators and adherence to Hiscox USA Best Practices;
- Leads and executes on identified strategic business initiatives to deliver cost effective and innovative claims results, claims litigation strategy and a consistent, high value customer experience;
- Supports claim employee engagement goals, team performance and development;
- Drives litigation management behaviors and identifies trends and training opportunities to address same;
- Oversees and drives Best Practice compliance with the reserving process for the CGL LOB, including overseeing exposure, and ensuring timeliness and adequacy of incurred reserves;
- Tracks claims trends and reserving, with respect to timeliness and sufficiency;
- Effectively manages performance of AVPs;
- Plays an active role in recruitment and onboarding;
- Leads and/or participates in Claims Projects as needed;
- Works directly with key stakeholders, such as UW and Claim Operations, to deliver on business needs, goals and important operational objectives.
- 10+ years of claims management experience or equivalent, including significant people management and leadership experience
- 7+ years insurance carrier claims handling experience, preferably with commercial general liability lines
- The ability to translate strategic thinking into tangible plans and delivery to effectively meet business objectives
- Strong operational skills, including both business process and systems, combined with a visible passion for the customer
- A strong track record of leveraging technology to innovate and improve business performance and efficiency
- Industry acumen and proven strong judgement to make sound claims and broader business decisions
- High learning agility and intellectual curiosity combined with the entrepreneurial spirit to work in a complex and global environment
- A proven track record of collaborating and managing stakeholders across all levels, including senior management

Hiscox USA underwrites small- to mid-market commercial risks through brokers, other insurers and distribution partners and directly to businesses. In 2026, gross written premiums for the segment will represent over $1bn. Circa 50% of the portfolio comprises small commercial business sold either online or through intermediaries, and the remaining 50% represents traditionally traded business intermediated through broking partners including Professions, Crisis Management and Specialist lines such as Media & Entertainment.
Hiscox USA has built the digital business since 2010 through ongoing investment in the brand, technology and operational capabilities. The business has pursued an omni-channel approach since inception, and so are less constrained by the channel conflict which affects some competitors. Customers have a choice of buying policies online end-to-end, by connecting with a Hiscox agent over the telephone, or alternatively through a third-party broker or insurance carrier partner.
