OpportunityWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Business Analyst – Specialty Lines (Excess & Surplus) with deep expertise in non-admitted insurance markets and specialty risk coverage. This role focuses on supporting complex insurance transformations involving E&S products, which require flexible underwriting, non-standard rating, and regulatory considerations.
The BA will play a key role in capturing and translating highly nuanced business requirements into system capabilities, ensuring that solutions support customized underwriting, rapid product configuration, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
What You’ll Be Doing E&S Business Analysis- Elicit and document requirements for specialty lines and E&S products, including complex risk scenarios
- Capture requirements for non-standard underwriting, manual referrals, and exception handling
- Define workflows for broker-driven submissions, quote negotiation, and policy issuance
- Ensure adherence to state-level E&S regulations, surplus lines taxes, and compliance requirements
- Work with compliance stakeholders to embed regulatory rules into system design
- Support configuration teams with flexible product modelling and rule definition
- Enable design of highly configurable products with minimal system constraints
- Ensure system supports custom endorsements, pricing adjustments, and risk-based decisioning
- Engage with underwriters, brokers, and operations teams to capture detailed requirements
- Facilitate workshops to align on complex and evolving business needs
Act as a consultant to business teams on system capabilities and transformation opportunities
- Define and execute UAT scenarios specific to E&S workflows
- Ensure system supports real-world underwriting flexibility and operational efficiency
- Validate outputs including pricing, policy documents, and compliance reporting
- Minimum 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst all within the insurance domain, with hands-on expertise in the E&S (non-admitted) insurance market, supporting complex and high-risk specialty business segments
- Proven experience delivering across the full SDLC lifecycle, including requirements gathering, functional design, testing support, and business validation
- Hands-on experience across specialty product lines such as Professional Liability, Cyber, Marine, Umbrella/Excess Liability, and Specialty Property
- In-depth understanding of:
- Underwriting processes and workflows
- Rating methodologies and premium calculations
- Coverage structures, endorsements, and exclusions
- Policy lifecycle (quote > bind > issue > renew > endorse > cancel)
