POSITION SUMMARY:

The Risk and Insurance Manager, Development and Construction is responsible for administering the company’s construction-related insurance and risk management programs supporting new construction, acquisition-rehabilitation, and other development activities. This role supports the placement and renewal of builder’s risk and construction liability programs, serves as the primary administrator of the company’s subcontractor default insurance program, and manages or monitors construction-related claims from initial notice through resolution and recovery.

The Risk and Insurance Manager, Development and Construction reviews loan, construction, design, and consulting agreements to evaluate insurance, indemnification, and bonding requirements; addresses insurance-related requirements from lenders, investors, and other stakeholders; and analyzes program costs, claims, and loss trends to support informed decision-making. This position partners closely with Development, Construction, Finance, Legal, lenders, investors, brokers, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, contractors, and consultants to protect the organization’s assets and manage its overall construction risk exposure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Supports the placement, administration, and renewal of the company’s builder’s risk insurance programs, including exposure data collection, underwriting submissions, coverage analysis, and coordination with brokers, insurance carriers, and internal stakeholders.
• Administers project-specific and master builder’s risk programs for new construction and acquisition-rehabilitation projects, ensuring projects are appropriately enrolled, reported, and maintained throughout the development and construction lifecycle.
• Assists with builder’s risk claims from initial notice through investigation, documentation, adjustment, resolution, and recovery in partnership with project teams, brokers, adjusters, insurance carriers, and other external service providers.
• Supports the placement, renewal, and ongoing administration of the company’s construction liability insurance programs, including the evaluation of coverage terms, limits, retentions, exclusions, and pricing.
• Manages or monitors construction liability claims from initial notice through settlement and release, ensuring timely reporting, appropriate documentation, effective communication, and coordination among internal and external stakeholders.
• Serves as the primary administrator of the company’s subcontractor default insurance program, including subcontractor prequalification, enrollment, financial review, default administration, claims coordination, and input into loss-reserving decisions.
• Reviews and interprets loan agreements, construction contracts, design agreements, consulting agreements, and other project-related documents to evaluate insurance, indemnification, risk allocation, and bonding provisions.
