Manages interpreter services for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and Hearing Impaired clients for effective communication and care. This includes but not limited to the interpretation or coordination of interpretative services for patients, visitors and staff as needed as well as sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance patients' and families' comprehension of medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care.

- Oversees all operations involving interpreter services with accuracy of meaning through the use of medical, business, and general terminology.
- Coordinates translation services of pertinent materials for patients and families, such as written information regarding relevant services, pre-operative, post-operative, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care materials.
- Works with all LMC departments to provide follow-up with LEP patients (e.g., follow up billing and collections.
- Develops annual operational and capital budgets; plans for future programs and monitors monthly expenditures.
- Manages contracts and reports with outsource interpretive companies to keep contracts and employee criteria up-to date.
- Maintains the LMC LEP (limited English proficiency) plan and ensures program is compliant.
- Runs monthly reports in Service Hub of interpreting encounters, to include relevant data such as location, duration, and purpose; supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the interpretation services program.
- Serves as a cultural mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between staff and patients or family members.
- Recruits, orients, and evaluates interpreter staff and monitor staffing levels
- Manages on-call schedule for interpreters.
- Establishes competency level of in house staff who interpret and ensures on-going continuing education training and opportunities.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Supervisor on duty.
