This position is an ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICER TRAINEE

The starting pay rate for an Uncertified Officer is $26.84 hourly / $55,827.20 annually. After the successful completion of Police Academy, new Certified Officer Trainees will receive a pay increase to $27.65 hourly / $60,387.60 annually.
At the officer’s one year anniversary from date of hire, they will receive a promotion to Certified Police Officer and a pay increase to $30.07 hourly / $65,672.88 annually and be eligible for shift differential, specialized duty stipend pay, and education incentives (3% hourly increase for a bachelor’s degree and an additional 3% hourly increase for a master’s degree).
Qualified candidates who are selected for hire must be available to attend the State Police Academy Training with no absences.
Academy dates are not yet scheduled and are subject to change, with prior notice.
Qualified candidates must have clear background, clear motor vehicle, and pass pre-employment physical (hearing, vision, overall fitness and lifting), psychological and drug screen examinations.
A basic physical ability test will be scheduled for a later determined time and date. You will receive a notification regarding testing time if your application is selected.
This test involves a timed fitness course that includes running, jumping, negotiating obstacles, dragging a 175 lb. mannequin, crawling, and climbing.
A written test is also required and will be administered on that same day for those that successfully pass the agility test.

Candidates who have already completed Basic Police School at a Tennessee State Academy within the last 24 months, on their own and have not yet been hired by a Police Department will be considered for this Trainee position and will not be required to attend the academy again.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Investigates crimes and accidents, protects property, facilities, and citizens.
- Patrols commercial, business, industrial, and residential districts within the City enforcing City Ordinances and State laws.
- Investigates traffic accidents and makes reports of same.
- Investigates crimes, reports findings, and makes arrests of suspects.
- Direct and controls traffic.
- Testifies in court or legal proceedings.
- Operates and maintains law enforcement equipment.
- Investigates, reports and follows-up on various violations of the laws of Tennessee and of the Ordinances of the City of Lebanon.
- Writes routine reports, correspondence using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Speaks to community groups on methods of crime prevention.
- Assists other departmental staff as directed by supervisor.
- 12-hour shifts and hours vary including days and nights.
- Ability to learn the geographic area of the city.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of action.
- Ability to ascertain facts by personal contacts, observation, and the examination of records.
- Ability to explain and interpret pertinent provisions of laws, ordinances, and regulations.
- Ability to enforce laws firmly, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
