Overview

Perform under supervision on a regular, irregular, or rotating shift schedule assigned duties in connection with the operation and routine maintenance of turbines, boilers, generators, pollution control equipment, including reactant prep and SDRS equipment, auxiliary equipment, HVAC, and other equipment pertinent to plant and yard operations.

GENERAL DUTIES

Employees will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures, and practices.
Employees acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision must be willing to direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Station Helper, or other duties with which the employee is familiar.
Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities. Employee will carry out assignments in training for and/or performing fire fighting and first aid.
Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Employee will demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric to assure correct classification of employees.
Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.
Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms, and documents as required.
Employee will represent the company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance, and attitude.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Employee will become knowledgeable of operations in plant and yard.
Employee will become knowledgeable of the Operating Card System.
Employee will take readings and record same:
Change charts on recording meters and instruments as directed.
Employee will check operation of motors, variable frequency drives ( VFDs ), bearings, hydraulic couplings on draft fans, and feed pumps.
Employee will check operation of pulverizers, coal feeders, and scales.
Employee will operate and check operation of soot blowers and deslaggers; hand lance furnace walls as directed.
