Food Service & Environmental Services (Housekeeping) Manager

Are you a hands-on leader with experience managing Culinary Services and Environmental Services in a healthcare setting? We are seeking a dedicated Food Service & Housekeeping Manager to oversee the daily operations of both departments while maintaining high standards for resident satisfaction, food quality, cleanliness, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.

Position Summary

The Food Service & Housekeeping Manager provides overall leadership and oversight for the Culinary and Environmental Services departments. This position is responsible for staffing, scheduling, budgeting, compliance, quality outcomes, and day-to-day operations.

As a key member of the facility leadership team, this role helps ensure state survey readiness, infection control compliance, resident satisfaction, and quality standards across both departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily food service operations, including purchasing, inventory, meal production, sanitation, and meal service.

• Supervise, train, and develop culinary team members.

• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and Serv Safe standards.

• Manage food service budgets and control food costs.

• Participate in resident council meetings and address resident and family concerns.

• Prepare and cook meals when needed during staffing shortages or high-volume periods.

• Step in and support daily culinary operations as needed.

• Oversee housekeeping, laundry, floor care, and environmental services operations.

• Develop and manage department schedules.

• Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, OSHA standards, and healthcare regulations.

• Maintain high standards for facility cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance.

• Manage departmental budgets and operational expenses.

• Maintain state survey readiness and regulatory compliance.

• Assist with department operations during staffing shortages, emergencies, and other facility needs.

Required Qualifications

• Previous leadership experience in healthcare, skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or hospital environments
  .

• Strong knowledge of healthcare infection prevention, sanitation standards, and regulatory compliance.

• Ability and willingness to work alongside culinary and housekeeping teams on a daily basis.

• Ability to cook and actively support culinary operations when necessary.

• Ability and willingness to cover staff call-outs and work across both departments.

• Must be willing and able to report to work during:

• Severe weather events

• State surveys

• Public health emergencies

• COVID-related situations

• Facility emergencies

Certifications & Training

• Serv Safe Manager Certification required.

  • Active certification preferred.

  • Candidates without current certification must obtain it within 30 days of hire.

• CDM certification required or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire.

• Demonstrated knowledge of:

• Infection control protocols

• OSHA standards

• Healthcare environmental services regulations

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience managing both Culinary Services and Environmental Services
  .

• Experience as a:

• Food & Nutrition Services Director

• Environmental Services Manager

• Department Head overseeing multiple support service departments

• Dining Services Director with EVS responsibilities

• Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) or Long-Term Care (LTC) experience strongly preferred.

• Hospital leaders with meaningful crossover experience in food service and environmental services will also be considered.
