Position OverviewThe Director of Children, Youth, & Camp provides strategic and operational leadership for Jewish Long Beach’s camp, after school, and youth programs. The role is responsible for creating high-quality experiences that strengthen connection, support families, and build a pathway for children to grow within the J.
This leader serves as Camp Director for Summer Camp, Break Camps, Specialty Camps, Teen Programs, and oversees After school, and other youth initiatives. The Director is a highly visible presence with children, families, staff, and community partners and is responsible for program quality, enrollment growth, fiscal performance, staff development, safety, and regulatory compliance.
The primary goal is simple: ensure every member, guest, child, and family leaves the J feeling just a little better than when they arrived, while building camp and youth programs that create lasting connection and belonging.
Essential Position Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership for Camp and Youth programs, establishing clear goals for program quality, enrollment, retention, financial performance, family experience, and growth.
- Serve as Camp Director for Summer Camp, and provide leadership for Break Camp, and Specialty Camps, leading program design, planning, staffing, training, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee After school programming, School Days Out, Parents’ Night Out, and youth initiatives.
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and professional development for staff, including developing and strengthening Inclusion services across programming.
- Recruit, train, develop, and retain strong seasonal teams, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, Jewish values, and exceptional participant experience.
- Develop and manage Camp and Youth budgets, enrollment projections, pricing recommendations, revenue goals, staffing models, and expense controls to ensure fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability.
- Use enrollment, retention, satisfaction, financial, and program data to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and make timely adjustments.
- Build strong relationships with parents and caregivers through consistent, proactive, and responsive communication before, during, and after programs.
- Maintain a visible and welcoming presence throughout programs and serve as a trusted point of contact for families, staff, and participants.
- Partner across Jewish Long Beach departments to create seamless family experiences and strengthen connections among ECE, Camp, Youth, Membership, Aquatics, Jewish Life, and other programs.
- Collaborate with the Communications team on annual marketing, recruitment, enrollment, and retention strategies for all Camp and Youth programs.
- Develop partnerships with schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders that expand participation and strengthen Jewish Long Beach’s reach.
- Staff assigned committees and task forces and partner effectively with lay leadership to advance program goals.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable State Child Care Licensing, California Department of Developmental Services requirements, American Camp Association standards, and organizational policies, including required records, documentation, training, and procedures.
