Summary
You will serve as a Supervisory Hydrologist.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 nights per month.
You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
DutiesSome of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversees restoration project planning, implementation, and interagency coordination:
Directs and manages the planning, coordination, and execution of Everglades National Park and large-scale interagency restoration projects, ensuring collaboration with internal and external partners and timely completion of deliverables. - Directs ecosystem restoration modeling and applied science programs:
Maintains oversight of scientific hydrologic, ecological and water quality modeling and data analysis to systematically evaluate restoration alternatives, briefs Department of the Interior leadership, and prepares documentation supporting National Park Service positions. - Supervises the design, implementation, and quality of applied research and environmental assessment projects, ensuring alignment with annual science planning, organizational priorities, and scientific standards.
- Represents the South Florida Natural Resources Center (SFNRC) and the National Park Service, as needed, at DOI and/or interagency meetings and hearings, where his/her experience or expertise would be beneficial to the Service.
- Leads and manages Branch Staff while ensuring that employees execute work efficiently and to high standards:
Handles administrative and technical supervision, including assigning staff work, recruiting and hiring, and overseeing career development, training, and performance evaluations for branch staff. - Sets guidelines for technical reporting and publication standards, reviews manuscripts for accuracy, and maintains professional contacts and credentials with scientific organizations.
- Manages branch finances, operations, and compliance:
Develops and manages annual and long-term budgets, staffing plans, equipment inventories, and procurement processes while ensuring compliance with National Park Service integrity requirements. - Evaluates water management and operational changes affecting NPS Resources:
Monitors and analyzes operational changes to the C&S system and related land-use, water-use, and development activities to assess impacts on NPS and DOI resources, including restoration initiatives.
