Description

The Regional Safety Manager (RSM) provides strategic safety leadership across multiple construction projects and locations within an assigned geographic region. The RSM is responsible for driving consistent safety expectations, leadership capability, regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement across the assigned region.

The RSM serves as the regional counterpart to the Divisional Safety Manager. The Regional Safety Manager leads safety across construction projects and geographic regions, while the Divisional Safety Manager leads safety across operational divisions, facilities, mobile work forces, and business functions. Both positions report to the Safety Director and operate as parallel leadership career paths within the Safety Department.

This position partners directly with regional Operations leaders, Area Managers, Project Executives, Project Managers, Human Resources, Training, Claims, and other functional leaders to integrate safety into project planning and execution. The RSM maintains project visibility, develops assigned safety leaders, evaluates regional risk and performance, and translates incidents, trends, and Event Learning Opportunities into sustainable improvements.

The RSM is accountable for the effective implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Polk Mechanical’s safety programs within the assigned region. Operations and project leadership retain responsibility for the safe planning, supervision, and execution of work within their areas.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the regional Safety organization through direct management of assigned Safety Managers and strategic support of all safety personnel within the region.
  • Serve as the primary regional safety liaison to Operations leadership and the Safety Director.
  • Ensure consistent application of safety programs, policies, and expectations across multiple sites.
  • Lead and facilitate Event Learning Opportunities (ELOs) focused on learning, systems improvement, and prevention.
  • Analyze regional incidents, near-miss, and high-risk activity trends to identify systemic opportunities.
  • Translate ELO findings into actionable improvements and share lessons learned regionally.
  • Develop and mentor Safety Managers through direct leadership and coaching while ensuring structured development opportunities are provided to Site Safety Managers, Safety Coordinators, and Safety Representatives.
  • Provide regular performance updates and insights to the Safety Director.
  • Promote a learning-based safety culture focused on accountability and engagement.
  • Maintain regional visibility to build trust with operations and field leadership.
  • Directly manage Safety Managers within assigned region.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong leadership, coaching, team-development, and succession-planning capabilities.
  • Advanced understanding of construction safety management systems, risk management, and operational safety leadership.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 construction standards and applicable company, client, state, and local requirements.
  • Ability to influence regional Operations leaders, project leaders, and field personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects, locations, clients, and operational environments.
  • Ability to travel regularly between assigned projects and regional operations.
  • Ability to work in active construction environments.
