Location: Northern

Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking an Area Coordinator to join the Residential Life and Education Department.

The Area Coordinator is a live-in, 11-month professional staff position, reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Residential Life or their designee, with duties coordinated by the Director of Residential Life and Education.

This person supervises 1-2 Resident Directors as well as a staff of paraprofessional Resident Assistants (RAs) and is integrally involved in the planning and delivery of the residential education program, specifically the oversight and support for the academic and co-curricular planning in a larger upper-class residential area.

Specific responsibilities include:

supervision, training, and evaluating of RAs; facilities management, on-call consultation/responder for emergency situations; management and reporting of housing operations and departmental projects; liaison to the judicial office by serving as a judicial hearing officer; development of learning community partnerships with faculty and campus offices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Residential Operations & Building Management

Managing the physical integrity of assigned area, responsive to address and resolve facility issues, such as needed repairs, maintenance, or renovations; identify and resolve recurrent student issues including but not limited to trash, security, damage/vandalism) Demonstrate active communication with supervisor and main office regarding building management. Assure accurate recordkeeping and responsiveness to expedite resolution of student/building issues Supervises in-hall assignments and room changes Conduct regular walk-throughs of area to forge positive relations with custodians, students, and do first-hand checks on building integrity and needed repairs Assist to manage/resolve student concerns, including but not limited to roommates, facilities/work orders, campus resource needs, etc.

Residential

Education & Community Development

Knowledgeable as to the requirements and application of the programming model and the educational philosophy and goals of the department Acts as liaison between the student affairs professional staff, the resident assistants, and resident students Supervises residence hall activities and programs Collaborates with faculty and staff, under the direction of the Director, for co-curricular programs and further develops the living learning philosophy and program Serve as a Conduct Hearing Officer for Community Standards and Student Conduct Attends major hall sponsored events Demonstrate a holistic and working knowledge of campus resources and effectively promote them through programming efforts, student interactions, and marketing On Call Support Understand in practice the College’s Emergency Management Plan, specifically related to this role, the RLE response and report structure Participation in the Professional Staff Member (PSM) on-call rotation Projects and Committees Coordinate at least two departmental projects per semester.

These projects include but are not limited to operational housing projects such as room assignments/selection, RA training/selection, professional staff training, and faculty-engaged co-curricular collaborations Serve as a Residential Life representative on at least one division of Student Development and Mission committee Other duties and responsibilities as assigned, based on the needs of the division of Student Development and Mission, the Office of Residential Life and Education, and the professional interests of the AC

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Area Coordinator will supervise 10-14 undergraduate Resident Assistants, a Residential Learning Community, and 1-2 professional staff members.

Minimum Qualifications
