Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Public Works Director, manages and directs the construction and repair of City streets and infrastructure, asset management, water distribution, wastewater collection, facilities maintenance. Plans and coordinates work schedules, prioritizes projects, and communicates effectively with employees, contractors, and the general public.

Essential Duties and

Job Functions:

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. (These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Plans, coordinates and supervises the work required to efficiently construct, maintain and repair City streets and water distribution and sewer collection lines. Inspects construction projects to ensure conformance with plans and specifications. Inspects streets, water and sewer lines, storm sewers, alleys, sidewalks, curbs and gutters to determine required maintenance. Ensures proper safety precautions are observed at work sites.
  • Instructs, trains, supervises, evaluates, and assists in recruiting, hiring, and disciplining divisional personnel. Ensures employees are properly trained in operations and safety procedures. Prioritizes work assignments and prepares work schedules and job assignments. Inspects projects and work records to ensure completeness and compliance with specifications, codes and practices. Gives technical advice and assistance to divisional employees on difficult or unusual work.
  • Develops the annual divisional operating and capital budgets for review by the Public Works Director. Ensures expenditures are maintained within the approved budget parameters. Checks and approves timesheets and leave requests.
  • Directs the requisition, storage and control of materials and supplies for use by divisional operations. Allocates resources for specific projects.
  • Supervises crews engaged in snow and ice removal and street sweeping on City streets, sidewalks, and parking lots. Supervises the installation and maintenance of uniform traffic control devices in the City. Manages building maintenance.
  • Reviews and approves purchase requests for the division. Develops specifications and recommends the acquisition and replacement of equipment and facilities. Ensures an adequate supply and quality of repair and replacement parts.
  • Provide input & plan for CIP projects.
  • Maintain asset management and GIS by updating with internal maintenance.
  • Responds to public inquiries and complaints, and assists the public as needed. Provides information to the public related to assigned areas of Public Works.
  • Responds to Public Works emergency situations as needed on a 24-hour, on-call basis.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in technology, regulatory developments, new administrative techniques and current issues through continued education and professional growth. Attends conferences, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.
  • Performs related work as required.
