Job Description

Performs difficult administrative work to assist in the administration of programs and projects of the School of Agriculture. Provides overall leadership and support of the financial, accounting, and personnel operations of the School of Agriculture. Partners with peers across the institution in the financial management of and planning for the strategic use of funds. Serves in a leadership, advocacy, and liaison capacity with primary responsibilities to assist in the development and execution of important administrative functions.

Coordinates work units, arranges meetings/conferences, and provides information as needed. Recruits staff, and records and analyses data. Maintains civil rights compliance for USDA as an EEO officer.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BANNER financial software experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel
  • Knowledge of USDA NIFA civil right compliance review process
  • Knowledge of USDA Financial procedures

Physical Demands

  • Sitting at a desk for extended periods, often up to 6–8 hours per day, while reviewing financial spreadsheets, analyzing data, and managing personnel files
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of light office items, such as boxes of paper, training binders, files, or reference manuals weighing up to 15–20 pounds.
  • Walking or standing to attend frequent department meetings, conduct office walkthroughs, or travel to local interagency briefing
  • Must be able to travel for meetings, conferences, and training.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must have the ability to be composed as all time.

  • Assists in defining objectives. Develops polices and procedures. Provides senior leadership in the scheduling of facilities and events.
  • Provides strategic policy advice and recommendations to the Dean and Director of School of Agriculture. Provides leadership in the preparation of financial reports and management of expenditures and revenue sources; prepares data and documents to assist the Dean and Director of School of Agriculture with accurate financial, personnel and accounting information.
Coordinates work unit
  • Relays difficult assignments, messages and other information from the Office of the Dean and Director of School of Agriculture to appropriate work units. Follows up on work in progress to ensure timely action. Evaluates work and counsels employees.
  • Recommends budget items. Coordinates submission of proposals to various local and federal agencies. Monitors project activities and expenditures. Reviews purchases and payments on behalf of the Dean and Director of School of Agriculture. Maintains records of expenditures. Ensures accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial data.
  • Ensures compliance with university and external agencies’ policies and procedures. Reviews and approves documents prepared for Dean and Director of School of Agriculture’s signature.
