Evergreen Start seeks a thoughtful, systems-oriented Finance and Operations Director to build the financial, people, and operational infrastructure that will support the organization as it grows.

Position Summary

The Finance and Operations Director is responsible for Evergreen Start's financial integrity, people systems, and core operational infrastructure. The Director designs, implements, and oversees integrated systems that support complex funding streams, fiscal sponsor ships, shared services, and a growing workforce.

Serving as the organization's senior leader for finance, human resources, and internal systems, the Director works closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to translate strategy into financially sound, well-governed, and scalable operations.

Performance is reviewed annually based on role responsibilities, organizational goals, and alignment with Evergreen Start's mission and values. As a growing organization, responsibilities may evolve over time.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Reporting

• Lead financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting
• Prepare and present clear, accurate financial statements for the Executive Director, Board, and funders
• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Monitor financial performance and recommend course corrections as needed

Grants Contracts and Compliance

• Oversee the financial management of grants and contracts, including tracking, invoicing, and reporting
• Ensure compliance with funder, state, and federal financial requirements
• Coordinate audits, financial reviews, and funder monitoring processes
• Partner with program staff to align budgets with program design and implementation

Fiscal Sponsorship and Shared Services

• Administer fiscal sponsorship and shared financial services for partner organizations and initiatives
• Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and reporting tools for sponsored projects
• Ensure clear financial separation, cost allocation, and accountability across entities
• Provide financial guidance and support to sponsored partners

Human Resources Oversight

• Oversee human resources systems and policies, ensuring compliance with employment laws and best practices
• Manage payroll, benefits administration, and employee reimbursement systems through technology-enabled platforms
• Support recruitment, onboarding, compensation administration, performance cycles, and offboarding
• Partner with the Executive Director on organizational design, staffing plans, and compensation strategy

Technology and Systems Leadership

• Lead the selection, implementation, and optimization of accounting, accounts payable, expense management, human resources, payroll, child care management, and shared-services platforms
• Ensure systems are integrated, secure, and scalable
• Develop documentation, controls, and training to support consistent system use
• Serve as the primary liaison with technology vendors and consultants

Risk Management and Internal Controls

• Design and maintain internal controls across finance, human resources, and systems
