Position: Community Corrections Supervisor Sioux City - 51103 - Woodbury County
Location: Northern

This position is for permanent State of Iowa Department of Corrections employees. Those in any other status are not eligible to apply.

As a Community Corrections Supervisor, you will take on a key leadership role within the Iowa Department of Corrections.

You will lead and oversee a team of administrative support staff and community corrections residential services staff, where the primary focus is on direct oversight of these work units. In this role, you will play a central part in implementing department policies, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive correctional services to work release, and providing guidance and support to the district’s administrative support staff unit.

Your role :
  • Direct Supervision and Leadership:
    Lead, guide, and supervise residential staff, ensuring the highest standards of care and security for our residents. You will foster staff development through regular communication, feedback, coaching, and the implementation of evidence-based case management and supervision strategies.
  • Scheduling, Training, and Quality Assurance:
    Manage staff scheduling, time-off requests, and training, ensuring a well-prepared team.
  • Conduct performance evaluations with a focus on continuous quality improvement and monitoring staff performance.
  • Review casework and reports to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Maintain community resources tied to or located at the facility, enhancing the support network for residents. Ensure regular contact with clients as required by their level of supervision and individual case needs.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection process of new employees, actively engaging in recruitment and retention efforts, including job fairs and community colleges. This position will provide support and guidance, delegate work assignments, ensure needed training is completed timely and work with support staff to maintain office coverage during staff absences.
  • Ensure work units are adhering to all policies and procedures of safety. Respond to emergency situations effectively with the possibility of using life saving measures and appropriate defensive tactics as needed. Responsible for monitoring the work unit environment for safety-related issues.
  • Perform administrative duties, respond to emails/phone calls promptly, complete eLearning courses, attend supervisor/managers meetings, schedule and conduct staff meetings, participate in and/or develop committees as needed, propose agenda items, arrange for recording of minutes of meetings, collect and review timesheets, expense claims and other reports from unit employees.
  • As a member of the Leadership Team, you will work with other team members to support the mission of the District and Iowa Department of Corrections and will be included in an office coverage rotation and residential facility on call duties.

Hours worked
: M-F 8:00 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m. (some nights and weekends and travel to other counties)

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to four years of full-time work in human services, criminal justice, or corrections.
  • A total of eight years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 3.
