GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position's purpose is responsible for total understanding of Operation of Packaging. The Operation of Packaging must be understood in total with the focus of utilizing the equipment to meet all the quality and productivity goals as outlined in our quality system. All Packaging Operators must be capable of providing required supervision and direction to packers, and tow motor operators, under their supervision.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure Packaging is being performed per Work Instructions.
  • Coordinate all finished product, off all seven (8) finishing lines, and ensure it is packaged in accordance with customer requirements in the format.
  • Ensure operators are following J.S.A.'s.
  • Correct unsafe conditions and/or procedures and makes recommendations to management to eliminate future safety problems.
  • Continually monitor the operation of Packaging and crew members so all quality and productivity levels are met and exceeded whenever possible.
  • Monitor all safety activities and correct as necessary.
  • Make decisions on Packaging operations to maintain the standard of the quality and productivity. Questions which cannot be answered must be referred through the Chain of Command.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with crew members under his/her supervision.
  • Communicate with Crane Leaders/Operators, Inspectors, Line Leaders/Operators and Shipping personnel to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Train, lead and motivate crew members to maximize quality and productivity.
  • Continuously monitor training activities to ensure crew members are aware of all changes concerning procedures and policies.
  • Keep daily checklist on the pertinent information that affects the Packaging areas.
  • Monitor the Packaging (4600) numbers and maintain lowest number possible on material that's programmed to 4600.
  • Monitor and coordinate the export tow motor operator's tasks. Must ensure proper time management in order to be most efficient and productive.
  • Complete thorough and accurate daily packaging inventory sheet (Monday thru Friday).
  • Maintain strong communication ties with the Packaging Coordinator and Group Leader.
  • SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
    • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
    • Minimum 2 years' experience in Packaging.
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • Mobility in plant.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
    • The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks.
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Visual ability with or without correction.
    • Communication abilities.
    HEALTH AND SAFETY
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Follow Company safety rules.
  • Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.
  • Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:
    • Safety shoes
    • Safety glasses
    • Hearing protection
    • Hard Hat
    • Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:
    • Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
    • Fire Retardant clothing
    • Acid PPE
  • Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.
  • Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
  • Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Clean, well ventilated and safe work areas.
