Material Handler
Division: Highway Division
Reports To: Team Leader
FLSA Status: Hourly Non-Exempt
Shift: 1st shift – 7:00 am – 3:30 pm – $17/hr
Key Responsibilities- Compliance with all company policies and established plant procedures.
- Loading and unloading material to be shipped and/or received in a safe manner.
- Familiarity with the material to be loaded for process.
- Ability to work outside in all climates.
- Operation of forklift in both the 2‑ton and 8‑ton classes, if/once certified.
- Moving material in and around the warehouse.
- Pulling and staging orders.
- Read a tape measure.
- Loading and unloading from a flatbed trailer.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and ExperienceA high school diploma or equivalent is required. Individual must hold a valid state‑issued driver’s license. Prior forklift and material handling experience is recommended.
Language SkillsBasic language and writing skills to communicate with team members and complete employment‑related information.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and common fractions.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems and report them to the supervisor or team leader for solution. Follow and understand instructions assigned by supervisor.
Physical AbilityStand, bend, stoop, and squat most of the scheduled shift. Lift up to 75 pounds frequently during shift.
Work EnvironmentExperience extreme heat in summer months and extreme cold in winter months. Exposed to environmental residuals of manufacturing such as welding flash, noise pollution, dust particles, and fumes.
