GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position of Level II Shipping Operator is responsible for all operating functions as listed
below. Operation of the Shipping Unit must be understood in total with the focus of utilizing the
equipment to meet all the quality, productivity, and safety goals as outlined in our quality system.
Manage the operators in your area to be efficient and safe. This includes contract personnel, crane
ops, side loader, and tow motor ops. All work instructions and JSA's must be followed as outlined.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. The primary function of the Level II Shipping Operator is to coordinate all the functions
of shipping on the shift. In order to achieve the above, the operator needs to coordinate
to efficiently keep the flow of shipping and production at the highest level.
2. Other activities which the Shipping Operator performs:
a. Operate area cranes and tow motors as necessary to support Shipping
b. Insure customer packaging requirements are met for all loads.
c. Insure the correct coils/sheets are loaded on the trucks in a proper manner.
d. Coordinate crane movement to ensure prompt service for production and shipments.
e. Insure personnel follow the prescribed safety rules, JSA procedures also looking for
ways to improve procedures.
f. Routinely do JSO's on your contract personnel, tow motor, crane op, and side loader
ops. The emphasis will be on better training and safe operating practices.
g. Do Housekeeping and Maintenance jobs as assigned.
h. Enter and retrieve shipping data on the computer system as necessary.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Other duties as assigned
2. Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a High School Degree or Equivalent (GED)
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Mobility in plant
• While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand,
walk, etc.
• The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
• Visual ability with or without correction
• Communication abilities
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
2. Follow Company safety rules
3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor
or Manager immediately
4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or
worn:
a. Safety shoes
b. Safety glasses
c. Hearing protection
d. Hard Hat
Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:
e. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with
company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
f. Fire Retardant clothing
g. Acid PPE
5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the
Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
7. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
8. Maintain a clean and safe work area
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
2. Clean, well ventilated and safe work areas.
