Laboratory Technician – Metals / Materials Testing
Apex Systems is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support metals and materials testing operations for our client in Eminence, KY. This role is ideal for mature, detail-oriented individuals who are comfortable working hands-on with chemicals in a laboratory environment. Candidates must be fully aware that this position involves routine chemical handling and strict adherence to safety and quality procedures.

Key Responsibilities- Perform tensile testing, mechanical pull testing, and other materials evaluations
- Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges
- Prepare, handle, and work with chemical reagents using proper lab techniques (fume hood, vials, droppers, labeling, storage, and disposal)
- Support X-ray–related laboratory work (training provided)
- Operate lab and shop equipment including band saws, routers, mills, and similar machinery
- Accurately analyze test data and enter results into laboratory databases
- Access and maintain testing information within internal quality and lab systems
- Follow all Quality System procedures, documentation standards, and safety requirements
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic calibrations
- Identify equipment issues and escalate needs for internal or external service
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment
- Clear understanding and comfort working with chemicals in a laboratory setting
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety compliance
- Willingness and ability to perform hands-on lab work for extended periods
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and database entry
- Dependable, professional, and able to work effectively in a production lab environment
- Open to candidates with limited experience, non-degreed individuals, or those currently completing a degree
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
- Previous experience in a laboratory, quality, manufacturing, or testing environment
- Familiarity with measurement tools, calibration practices, and lab documentation
- Exposure to materials testing or regulated quality systems
- Laboratory and testing environment with routine chemical exposure
- Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Standing, manual handling, and hands-on testing throughout the shift
