Second Shift

Take Ownership of Complex Aerospace Machining

Parts Tool & Die is seeking an experienced CNC Milling Machinist to join our second-shift aerospace precision manufacturing team.

This position is designed for an accomplished machinist who can independently set up, prove out, operate, and optimize CNC milling centers while producing complex, tight-tolerance aerospace components.

The ideal candidate is dependable, technically confident, and comfortable solving difficult machining problems with minimal supervision. This is not a lead or supervisory position. It is a senior-level, hands‑on machining role for someone who takes pride in setup quality, dimensional accuracy, process stability, and finished results.

What You Will Do
  • Independently set up, prove out, and operate CNC milling centers on second shift.
  • Perform complex 3-axis, 4-axis, and multi‑axis milling operations.
  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, work instructions, customer specifications, and controlled documentation.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, vises, work holding, machining strategies, and inspection methods.
  • Produce high‑value aerospace components to extremely tight dimensional and geometric tolerances.
  • Machine challenging materials such as Inconel, titanium, hardened steels, stainless alloys, and other heat‑resistant aerospace materials.
  • Perform first‑article and in‑process verification using precision measuring equipment and advanced metrology tools.
  • Adjust feeds, speeds, offsets, tooling, and machining strategies to maintain accuracy, surface finish, tool life, and process stability.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, work holding, dimensional, and surface‑finish issues.
  • Recognize conditions that could affect safety, product quality, customer requirements, or production commitments.
  • Communicate unresolved technical concerns promptly to Operations, Engineering, or Quality.
  • Follow approved drawings, routings, work instructions, inspection methods, and tooling requirements without unauthorized deviation.
  • Complete all production, inspection, traceability, and AS9100 quality documentation accurately.
  • Provide clear information during shift transitions to support production continuity and prevent repeated issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area consistent with lean manufacturing and 5S practices.
  • Contribute practical technical feedback that improves setups, repeatability, tooling performance, and manufacturability.
What We Are Looking For

The strongest candidate will be a senior‑level machinist who can work independently, make sound technical decisions, and consistently produce accurate results.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Five or more years of CNC milling setup and operation experience in aerospace or high‑precision manufacturing.
  • Advanced experience with CNC milling centers, fixture‑based work, complex setups, and multi‑axis machining.
  • Strong blueprint‑reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Demonstrated success producing complex parts and accurate first articles with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of cutting‑tool technology, work holding, feeds, speeds, offsets, and machining strategies.
  • Experience machining exotic, hardened, and heat‑resistant materials.
  • Hands‑on experience with precision inspection equipment and dimensional verification.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 quality systems and aerospace documentation requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • The reliability, judgment, and self‑direction required to succeed on second shift.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accountability, and pride in workmanship.

Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis milling, Okuma or Fanuc controls, prototype components, and high‑mix, low‑volume manufacturing is preferred.

What Success Looks Like

Successful second‑shift Senior CNC Milling Machinists at PTD:

  • Independently complete complex setups, prove‑outs, and assigned production work.
  • Produce conforming parts that consistently meet drawing and customer requirements.
  • Complete accurate first articles and maintain repeatable production processes.
  • Verify dimensions…
