First Shift
Parts Tool & Die is seeking an experienced CNC Milling Machinist to join our first-shift aerospace precision manufacturing team.
This is a hands-on machining position for an accomplished professional who can independently set up, prove out, operate, and optimize CNC milling centers. You will manufacture complex, high-value aerospace components from challenging materials while maintaining tight tolerances, process stability, and complete quality documentation.
This is not a supervisory or lead position. It is an opportunity for a highly experienced machinist to apply advanced technical knowledge, solve difficult machining problems, and consistently produce quality work with minimal supervision.
What You Will Do- Independently set up, prove out, and operate CNC milling centers.
- Perform complex 3-axis, 4-axis, and multi-axis milling operations.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, work instructions, customer specifications, and controlled manufacturing documentation.
- Select cutting tools, fixtures, vises, work holding, and inspection methods appropriate for each operation.
- Manufacture high-value aerospace components to extremely tight dimensional and geometric tolerances.
- Work with challenging materials, including Inconel, titanium, hardened steels, stainless alloys, and other heat-resistant aerospace materials.
- Complete first-article work and in-process dimensional verification using precision measuring equipment and advanced metrology tools.
- Adjust feeds, speeds, offsets, and tooling strategies to maintain dimensional accuracy, surface finish, tool life, and process stability.
- Identify and resolve machining, tooling, work holding, dimensional, and surface-finish issues.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality when technical or dimensional concerns require additional support.
- Follow approved drawings, routings, work instructions, tooling requirements, and inspection methods.
- Complete production, inspection, traceability, and quality documentation accurately and in accordance with AS9100 requirements.
- Communicate production status, technical concerns, and process risks clearly and promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area consistent with company safety requirements, lean manufacturing practices, and 5S principles.
- Contribute practical machining knowledge and improvement ideas that strengthen repeatability, setup quality, and manufacturing performance.
The strongest candidate will be an experienced milling machinist who takes ownership of setup quality, dimensional accuracy, process discipline, and production results.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Five or more years of CNC milling setup and operation experience in aerospace or another high-precision manufacturing environment.
- Advanced proficiency with CNC milling centers, complex setups, fixture-based work, and multi-axis machining.
- Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Demonstrated success producing complex components and accurate first articles with minimal supervision.
- Strong knowledge of cutting tools, machining strategies, work holding, feeds, speeds, and tool-life management.
- Experience machining exotic, hardened, and heat-resistant materials.
- Hands-on experience with precision inspection equipment and dimensional verification.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 quality systems, traceability, and aerospace documentation requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accountability, reliability, and pride in workmanship.
Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis milling, Okuma or Fanuc controls, prototype work, and high-mix, low-volume manufacturing is preferred.
What Success Looks LikeSuccessful Senior CNC Milling Machinists at PTD:
- Complete complex setups and machining operations independently.
- Produce conforming components that meet drawing and customer requirements.
- Achieve accurate first articles and repeatable production results.
- Verify dimensions at appropriate stages of the machining process.
- Maintain control of high-value…
