DescriptionEssential Functions:
- Learn to set up and operate auxiliary production equipment such as the shrink band applicator, induction sealer, and ink jet coders and print and apply labelers.
- Help other line personnel to respond to line bottlenecks.
- Work with the team to perform quick changeovers via designated changeover steps and responsibilities to limit downtime.
- Work with the production team to attain team and company goals.
- Recognize and troubleshoot equipment issues and work with maintenance crew to carry out more complex resolutions.
- Complete production paperwork including GMP and HACCP sign offs, downtime reasons and calculation of product, packaging or label losses.
- Work with supervisors to write procedures and to develop other training aids.
- Work with manager, supervisors and production team to attain team and company goals.
- Help production team continuously improve on safety, product quality, cost, and delivery.
- Comply with employee training including SOPs, HACCP, GMP, job skill, safety, and improvement oriented training.
- Clean equipment and production area as scheduled and when necessary. Participate in scheduled deep clean and sanitization of production equipment.
- Understand and comply with GHS (global harmonized system) and practice safe chemical handling.
- Inspect for product quality and integrity by verifying correctness in packaging components and finished goods.
- Accurately document and verify partial counts and lot numbers of packaging materials and pallet count of finished goods.
- Learn to set up, changeover, and efficiently run equipment using applicable hand tools and following all Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
- Must properly verify SKU and label revision control for proper labeling (LABELER).
- Must successfully understand and learn equipment operation set as verified and approved by Maintenance Manager.
- Read and follow production schedule.
- Must be able to properly perform checkweigher calibration, scale inspection and filler tooling check for alignment on equipment (FILLER).
- May include learning and performing WMS Mobile transactions for label count verification (LABELER).
- Collect line samples and record packaged weight for quality measures (FILLER).
- Be on time to work and maintain good attendance.
- Required to work daily overtime and weekends as business demands necessitate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Advanced Functions of Machine Operator II:
- Be skilled in equipment changeovers at a higher level of complexity that requires specialized training and testing of competency by Maintenance.
- Competent and accurate in packaging component tracking on WMS Mobile as well as assignment of LPN tags for tracking.
- Able to operate and changeover multiple types of major production equipment.
- Able to set up auxiliary line equipment, e.g. shrink band applicator, induction sealer, ink jet and laser coders, print and apply labeler
- Full understanding and participation with management and maintenance team in TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) program for each piece of equipment operated.

Knowledge/
Skills:
- Be able to listen, understand and respond well to direction.
- Be able to communicate with other line workers and maintenance staff.
- Be able to read and complete production documentation to insure product integrity and to report downtime and packaging losses.
- Ability to do basic math calculations.
- Comfortable with and be mechanically inclined to be able to properly use small hand tools to changeover and adjust equipment.
- Maintain high level of attention to detail.
- Be self-motivated; be self-driven and motivated to learn as much as possible.
- Work well with others and contribute to a positive environment.
- Ability to sustain a fast work pace based on equipment driven speeds.
- Be able to work a flexible schedule including daily overtime and weekends.
Education/
Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic written English skills necessary.
- Basic general mathematic skills necessary.
- 1-2 years manufacturing experience preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in operation and changeover of packaging equipment preferred.

Reporting Relationships:
The Packaging Machine Operator II reports directly to the Packaging Supervisor and works with other Packaging Line Workers and Maintenance staff.
