Location: Clayton, Iowa
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Wage: $19.50/hour starting wage (Increases based on experience)
Shift Differential: +$3.00/hour for night shift premium
Schedule:
Monday
- Friday primarily, some weekend work will be required (Hours 8:00pm-6:00am)

Position Summary

Pattison Company is seeking a Plant Lab Technician to join our team at the Processing Plant in Clayton, Iowa on our Night Shift . This position is critical to maintaining product quality and process efficiency by performing accurate production sample analysis. Lab Technicians track production results, maintain detailed electronic records, and collaborate closely with Loadout and Plant Operators to ensure product specifications meet quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze hourly production samples to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Perform detailed lab testing on plant feed, waste material, and finished products from the Wet and Dry Plant.
  • Collect, analyze, and document samples from trucks, railcars, or barges before shipment.
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments and testing equipment.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database for tracking sample processing data and results.
  • Train and assist employees in performing basic Quality Control (QC) functions, ensuring all tests are conducted per established procedures.
  • Follow MSHA safety standards and company policies at all times.
  • Provide support to Plant and Loadout Operations as needed to optimize plant performance.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Ability to pass DOT requirements, pre-employment physical exam, and drug test.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (English proficiency required).
  • Excellent computer and data entry skills , with the ability to track and analyze numerical data.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and collaborate closely with lab partners.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work 12-hour shifts.
  • Must be comfortable working in elevated areas and climbing stairs frequently.
  • Ability to safely wear a half-mask respirator as required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Education & Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Applicants with a 2-year technical degree or previous lab/testing experience will be given priority.

Certifications & Licenses

  • MSHA Part 48 certification required (Training available on-site).
  • Valid driver’s license required for all Pattison Company employees unless deemed non-essential to the position by HR.
