Prairie Exteriors is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Shop Metal Fabricator / Metal Bending Specialist to work in our shop producing custom metal components used in residential roofing, siding, windows, gutters, and exterior remodeling projects.

This position is responsible for accurately measuring, cutting, bending, forming, and preparing sheet metal according to project specifications. The ideal candidate enjoys hands‑on work, takes pride in precision and craftsmanship, and can work independently while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe shop.

• Operate sheet-metal bending and forming equipment to produce custom metal components.
• Fabricate:
• Step flashing
• Counter flashing
• Apron flashing
• Valley metal
• Chimney flashing
• Wall flashing
• Window and door flashing
• Custom trim
• Fascia and soffit components
• Gutter‑related metal components
• Other custom pieces required for Prairie Exteriors projects
• Read and interpret measurements, drawings, work orders, and project specifications.
• Accurately measure and mark sheet metal before cutting or bending.
• Set up and safely operate brakes, shears, snips, folders, and other shop equipment.
• Inspect finished pieces for proper dimensions, bends, angles, appearance, and quality.
• Identify material or fabrication issues before components leave the shop.
• Organize completed materials by project so crews can easily identify and load what they need.
• Maintain accurate material inventory and communicate when materials need to be reordered.
• Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe.
• Follow Prairie Exteriors safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
• Work closely with Production Managers, Project Managers, and field crews to understand project‑specific needs.
• Assist with improving standard metal profiles, templates, and fabrication processes.
• Complete work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality.
• Perform other shop and production duties as needed.

• Highly detail-oriented - small measurement errors can create significant problems in the field.
• Comfortable working with measurements and basic math.
• Mechanically inclined and comfortable operating tools and equipment.
• Able to visualize how a flat piece of metal needs to be bent to create a finished component.
• Able to read basic drawings, diagrams, measurements, and work orders.
• Reliable and consistent with attendance.
• Comfortable working independently without constant supervision.
• Organized and able to prioritize multiple projects.
• Quality-focused and takes pride in finished work.
• Safety-conscious.
• Comfortable working with aluminum, steel, galvanized metal, and other sheet‑metal products.
• Willing to learn Prairie Exteriors’ specific fabrication standards and processes.

• Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the workday.
• Ability to repeatedly lift and move sheets of metal and fabricated components.
• Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and work with materials at various heights.
• Ability to safely operate shop equipment.
• Ability to work around sharp metal edges and use appropriate PPE.
• Ability to lift up to approximately 50 lbs. independently.
