Gun Drill Operator

Gun drilling uses a specialized machine to drill extremely straight holes with a high depth-to-diameter ratio. A gun drill machinist involves the precise operation of specialized deep-hole drilling equipment.

• Operate, and maintain gun-drill machine to produce precise holes in special alloy bars
• Setting up machines with appropriate tooling and work-holding fixtures.
• Operating machinery, monitoring drilling processes, and adjusting settings to maintain tolerances.
• Performing quality control checks on finished parts using precision measuring instruments.
• Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of drilling equipment.
• Adhering to safety protocols and documenting work.

• Experience with precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers) for quality assurance.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is standard, with vocational training, an apprenticeship, or an associate degree in machining a strong preference.
• Personal Attributes: Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are desirable.
