Community Relations Coordinator

The Community Relations Coordinator serves as the district's lead storyteller and brand ambassador. The position proactively discovers, develops, and shares compelling stories that celebrate student achievement, staff excellence, innovative programs, extracurricular accomplishments, and community partnerships across Pendleton County Schools. Through strategic, accurate, timely, and engaging communication, the coordinator will strengthen public confidence, build pride in the district, and ensure the district's story is consistently told in a positive, authentic, and credible manner.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a district wide communications and storytelling plan aligned with the district's mission, priorities, and goals.
  • Maintain a visible presence in schools, classrooms, extracurricular programs, and community events to proactively identify stories that demonstrate student success, staff excellence, innovation, service, and district pride.
  • Create and publish high-quality written, photographic, video, graphic, and digital content for district and school websites, social media, newsletters, presentations, print publications, and other communication channels.
  • Manage the district's official website news feed and social media platforms, maintaining a consistent, active, engaging, and professional presence.
  • Build and protect a clear, recognizable district brand by ensuring consistency in voice, key messages, visual identity, and quality across all platforms.
  • Develop purposeful story campaigns that reinforce the district's accomplishments, values, priorities, and positive impact on students and the community.
  • Establish regular systems for principals, teachers, coaches, sponsors, departments, students, to submit and develop story ideas.
  • Partner with school and district leaders to prepare accurate, timely, accessible, and audience-appropriate communications for families, staff, students, media, and the public.
  • Build productive relationships with local and regional media; prepare news releases, media pitches, feature ideas, talking points, press materials, and responses approved by the superintendent or designee.
  • Monitor media coverage, public feedback, and digital engagement to identify communication opportunities, misinformation, emerging concerns, and timely stories.
  • Support emergency and crisis communication as a member of the district emergency management team, ensuring information is accurate, coordinated, timely, and consistent.
  • Promote authentic two-way communication by gathering stakeholder feedback and recommending improvements to district communication practices.
  • Track communication performance using appropriate measures, including story volume, media coverage, website traffic, audience reach, engagement, and stakeholder feedback; provide regular reports to the superintendent and monthly updates to the Board of Education.
  • Maintain organized photo, video, story, media-contact, and communications archives in accordance with district procedures.
  • Attend school, district, community, evening, weekend, and out-of-district events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality; follow applicable laws, board policies, student privacy requirements, copyright rules, media-release procedures, and professional ethics.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance, punctuality, initiative, professionalism, and responsiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or designee.
