Wage: $16.80/hr

Length of employment:2026-27 academic year

Purpose of Position:At the City of Cornelius, you will join a team that is welcoming, inclusive, and all about working together. Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The City of Cornelius is looking for a student who is comfortable using Microsoft Office programs and open to taking on a variety of tasks that support the City’s day-to-day operations. Duties may include:

• Assisting with organizing, filing, and general office upkeep
• Preparing materials for meetings and events
• Helping with community outreach efforts and special event planning
• Updating internal records and gathering current contact information
• Supporting social media and promotional tasks for City events
• Assisting with calendar management and scheduling

Most work will be performed on-site at City Hall. A casual professional dress code is expected while on-site. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable public sector experience and be part of a team that serves the Cornelius community!

Interns will gain insight into civic responsibility and the importance of inclusive community-building. By supporting public events, sustainability initiatives, and neighborhood outreach efforts, interns will see how local government drives meaningful community impact.

Interns will participate in projects that involve collecting and analyzing data, supporting public communications, and identifying opportunities to enhance City programs and outreach.

• Applied Problem Solving

From event logistics to day-to-day challenges, interns will learn how to adapt, think on their feet, and find solutions that serve the community effectively.

Interns will build their professional network by working alongside City staff, community leaders, and local organizations—gaining exposure to careers in public service, communications, event planning, and more.

Interns will help create social media content, assist in developing outreach materials, and learn to use digital tools to communicate with and engage the community.

• Engaging Diversity

Cornelius is one of the most diverse communities in Washington County. Interns will help ensure outreach is inclusive and culturally responsive, including supporting bilingual initiatives and uplifting underrepresented voices.
