The Program Director will play a key role in ensuring safe, engaging, and impactful youth programs at the YMCA at Norton Commons and within our elementary school partnership.
The individual will work alongside the Sr Family Program Director to create, organize, market, deliver, and manage all aspects of Kids Club offerings. The role also involves participation in branch leadership, risk management, annual giving, and serving as Manager on Duty.
- Embody and advocate for the YMCA’s Mission, Values, and Voice.
- Uphold the YMCA’s commitment to customer service, participant‑focused practices, and the YMCA Annual Campaign.
- Set and model exceptional standards for member service.
- Model safety and care expectations for infants, toddlers, and school‑age children.
- Lead the Kids Club, approximately 20 hours per week, working at the Kids Club Welcome Center.
- Provide direct supervision and engaging programming for children ages 6weeksto
12years old, ensuring age‑appropriate activities that support developmental growth, safety, and positive social interaction. - Engage members directly through Kids Club and other programs, fostering a culture of connection and support.
- Recruit, interview, and train staff and volunteers.
- Communicate and enforce YMCA policies, with a focus on child safety.
- Manage staff schedules using scheduling software, ensuring coverage and availability in a timely manner.
- Plan and lead weekly and monthly activities, games, and crafts.
- Serve as lead staff for Parents’ Night Out (PNO), held twice a month, ensuring a fun and safe experience.
- Ensure birthday parties are adequately staffed and communicated to participants.
- Deliver the Safe‑Sitter Community Babysitting Program monthly to support local youth in gaining valuable babysitting skills.
- Provide updates to the Sr Family Program Director on staff development, supply needs, and member feedback.
- Organize bi‑monthly staff meetings.
- Take initiative to address and resolve member concerns to ensure safety and satisfaction in a timely manner.
- Onboard, coach, and observe approximately 40 part‑time Kids Club staff.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parents and community partners.
- Oversee youth and family programs to ensure a high‑quality, engaging experience.
- Model strong character and core values within Kids Club.
- Take leadership role in the Annual Campaign with campaigner volunteer and donor recruitment, philanthropic outreach, and board member recruitment.
- Understand, articulate, demonstrate, and promote the YMCA mission at all times.
- Demonstrated skill in communication, decision making, multi‑tasking, and leadership.
- Excellent customer service, problem‑solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Innovative program development skills with a focus on meeting community needs and demands.
- Previous program work experience preferred.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
- High‑quality programming in a healthy and safe environment.
- Educational and social stimulation appropriate to the age and development of the children served.
