Program: Workers’ Center - Day Labor Program and The Women’s Collective

Compensation: $71,000-$75,000 annual salary commensurate with experience. Full-time, exempt position. Mission Action nurtures individual wellness and cultivates collective power among low-income and immigrant communities to create a more just society. As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work together across programs to address homelessness, lack of affordable housing, and to support immigrant rights in order to meet the complex needs of our communities and collectively address the root causes of suffering and injustice.

Position summary:

The Program Manager of the Workers’ Center provides strategic leadership and day-to-day management of Mission Action’s two worker collectives: the Day Labor Program (DLP) and the Women’s Collective (WC). Located on Cesar Chavez Street, the Workers’ Center serves low-income immigrant day laborers and domestic workers, many of whom face housing insecurity, homelessness, and health challenges; by providing a safe space to negotiate fair wages and access support services.

The Program integrates organizing, leadership development, and member-centered services within a social change framework, building collective power to address the root causes of economic and social injustice. This position is a key member of Mission Action’s senior leadership team and reports to the Director of Community Engagement & Organizing Programs.

Duties and responsibilities:

Program Management:

  • Establish and manage strong relationships with funding partners for both the Day Labor Program and Women’s Collective.
  • Assist with writing grants and write funders’ reports related to the Day Labor Program and Women’s Collective.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure the Workers’ Rights Program delivers a model that centers transformative leadership and healing to the members of the collective.
  • Identify potential programmatic problems, analyze issues and extrapolate appropriate solutions to strengthen programming.
  • Develop a marketing plan, social services continuum of care plan, education plan relevant to the DLP and WC members, and an overall civic engagement plan in political and labor areas relevant to the DLP/WC community.
  • Oversee all services of the Workers’ Center Program including site services, training, referrals to health services, etc. and develop corresponding quality control and social impact metrics and measuring systems.
  • Develop new or strengthen existing strategic alliances with community partners in social services, education, and civic engagement. Alliances to include partners from public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Supervise the program staff in day-to-day functioning of all program activities.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to both staff and members. Conduct annual staff performance evaluations.

Operations:

  • Ensure a successful operation at the worker center with a focus on jobs generation, dispatch, quality control and development of members’ leadership.
  • Be responsible for meeting program and contractual obligations.
  • In charge of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Manage program operational budget.
  • Attend partner meetings, training and convenings.
  • Lead DLP/WC staff and member retreats.

Agency-Wide and Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Attend agency-wide staff retreats, lead DLP/WC contributions.
  • Participate in community organizing.
  • Represent the agency to the community at community meetings, public events, and other forums.
