Purpose:

Covenant Chapel (CC) is seeking a gifted and Christ-centered leader to oversee and develop our Children’s Ministries (birth through fifth grade). The Children’s Ministries Director will provide vision, leadership, and pastoral oversight for the ministry while equipping staff and volunteers to disciple children and partner with parents in raising the next generation of faithful followers of Christ.

This ministry should be relational, holistic, intergenerational, and team-oriented, reflecting a Reformed understanding of Scripture and the theory and practice of Christian education and discipleship. As a member of the church staff, the Children’s Ministries Director will collaborate with other ministry leaders to help Covenant Chapel fulfill its mission of cultivating a healthy and missional church.

Accountability:
Reports to the Session.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership & Vision
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and strategic plan for Children’s Ministries (birth through fifth grade).
  • Foster a ministry culture centered on evangelism, discipleship, worship, biblical teaching, leadership development, personal accountability, and ongoing evaluation.
  • Ensure that all aspects of Children’s Ministries align with Covenant Chapel’s mission, values, and theological convictions.
Staff Leadership
  • Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and encouragement for the Elementary Coordinator, Preschool Coordinator, and Nursery Coordinator.
  • Coordinate responsibilities, establish ministry goals, and conduct ongoing evaluation of staff effectiveness.
Volunteer Leadership
  • Recruit, equip, train, schedule, and encourage Children’s Ministries volunteers.
  • Oversee volunteer orientation and ongoing training, including child protection policies and security procedures.
  • Cultivate a culture of appreciation, growth, and servant leadership among volunteers.
Curriculum
  • Select, develop, and oversee curriculum for all children’s ministries from nursery through fifth grade, ensuring biblical faithfulness and age-appropriate discipleship.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
  • Provide leadership for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Vacation Bible School.
  • Recruit volunteers and supervise any necessary outside professional services.
Ministry Events
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate Children’s Ministries events, including retreats, conferences, outreach opportunities, and family ministry events.
  • Oversee volunteer coordination, program planning, materials, donations, and event logistics.
Budget & Administration:
  • Develop and administer the Children’s Ministries and Nursery budgets responsibly.
  • Manage ministry resources and purchases in accordance with approved budgets.
Communications:
  • Work collaboratively with church staff to oversee Children’s Ministries communications, including print materials, website content, social media, email, and promotional resources.
Pastoral Care:
  • Provide pastoral care, encouragement, and support for children, parents, volunteers, and families as appropriate.
Working Relationships:

The Children’s Ministries Director will:

  • Meet with the Education Team and appropriate ministry teams as needed.
  • Participate in Leadership Team meetings as requested.
  • Meet regularly with Children’s Ministries staff.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings.
  • Participate in quarterly Deacons’ meetings.
Evaluation:
  • Performance will be reviewed annually by the Session.
