Director of Philanthropy, Annual Giving

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides strategic leadership for the Museum’s individual giving program by overseeing annual giving, managing a portfolio of leadership donors, supervising donor engagement functions, and advancing long-term philanthropic growth through meaningful donor relationships and signature fundraising initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Giving Strategy

• Lead the Museum’s individual giving program through intentional portfolio management and comprehensive fundraising strategies.
• Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects.
• Develop individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
• Build and maintain a healthy major gift pipeline.

Annual Giving

• Provide strategic oversight of annual giving to strengthen donor acquisition, retention, and upgrades.
• Lead annual giving strategy across all donor levels.
• Develop acquisition, renewal, retention, and upgrade plans.
• Create pathways to move annual donors into major giving.

Donor Engagement & Events

• Ensure donor experiences support fundraising objectives and deepen long-term relationships.
• Provide strategic oversight for donor experiences.
• Lead fundraising strategy for the LBJ Moral Courage Award Dinner and major donor events.
• Oversee sponsorship strategy, committees, guest strategy, and donor moves management.
• Serve as a senior leader within the Development Department and collaborate across teams.
• Supervise the Philanthropic Events Manager.
• Partner with Development team members to advance shared fundraising and stewardship goals.
• Utilize Altru and Social Good to drive portfolio management and performance.

Accountability

• Achieve annual fundraising goals and grow individual giving revenue.
• Lead donor engagement initiatives that strengthen long-term relationships.
• Ensure consistent portfolio management, staff accountability, and fundraising performance.

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree – Nonprofit management, communications, business, arts administration, or related degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• 7–10+ years of progressive fundraising/development experience, preferably in a museum, cultural, or nonprofit organization.
• Proven success leading individual giving, annual giving, and major gifts programs and achieving fundraising goals.
• Experience managing a portfolio of leadership donors and prospects, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage a major gift pipeline and grow annual donors into major supporters.
• Experience leading donor events, fundraising dinners, sponsor ships, and cultivation experiences.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing fundraising staff.
• Strong experience using CRM systems and fundraising data to manage portfolios, track moves, and measure performance;
  Altru and Social Good preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior leadership, board members, volunteers, and cross-functional teams.
