PASTOR OF DISCIPLE-MAKING

Job Description

Position:
Full-time, exempt, 40 hours/week

The Pastor of Disciple-Making is a spiritually mature, theologically grounded, strategic leader who builds the systems, culture, and leaders necessary for a growing church to consistently make and multiply mature disciples of Jesus Christ. This position reports to the Executive Pastor, works closely with him to coordinate disciple-making ministries, and serves on the Executive Leadership Team of the church.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, organize, promote, administer, execute, and evaluate a comprehensive disciple-making strategy for adults 18 years of age and older.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the College, Young Adult, Adult, Men, Women, Hospitality, and Care Pastors/Directors and their respective ministry teams.
  • Lead appropriate staff meetings for the Disciple-Making Team and ensure alignment of all ministries with the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of Providence.
  • Cultivate a culture of multiplication in which disciples make disciples, leaders develop leaders, groups multiply, and churches plant churches.
  • Plan, develop, and oversee the creation of church-wide Bible reading plans, devotionals, and Life Group guides that align with and reinforce the church’s sermon series.
  • Provide leadership and accountability for identifying, equipping, and developing lay leaders to serve throughout the Disciple-Making Ministry.
  • Develop and submit annual objectives, goals, and calendars for the Disciple-Making Team in collaboration with the appropriate ministry leaders. Ensure that all ministry events and initiatives are coordinated through the church calendar.
  • Oversee the development of annual budgets for each disciple-making ministry area for recommendation to the Elders, and oversee the implementation of approved budgets.
  • Develop and execute strategies for communicating the vision and goals of the Disciple-Making Ministries and provide oversight for assimilating church members into appropriate ministry environments and opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Profile of Desired Candidate

Spiritually Mature – Possesses and demonstrates a mature and growing faith in Jesus Christ, characterized by spiritual discernment, personal integrity, and a life that reflects biblical priorities.

Humble – Understands deeply that all gifts, abilities, opportunities, and accomplishments are gifts from the Lord and leads with humility and a servant’s heart.

Experienced – Has a minimum of seven years of meaningful discipleship ministry experience, preferably within a large church context (1,500+ in attendance).

Theologically Grounded – Possesses significant theological depth and is able to rightly handle the Word of God, teach it faithfully, and apply biblical truth to real-life circumstances.

A Proven Disciple-Maker – Has personally discipled others who are now discipling others, demonstrating a pattern of spiritual multiplication.

A Strategic Thinker – Able to assess the health and effectiveness of a ministry or church, identify opportunities for growth and improvement, develop strategic plans, and lead others toward their implementation.

A Leader of Leaders – Experienced in leading and developing pastors, directors, and ministry leaders, providing clarity, coaching, accountability, and encouragement without micromanaging.

A Culture Builder – Able to build alignment among diverse ministry areas around a common biblical philosophy and strategy of disciple-making.

An Organizational Leader – Able to develop the systems, processes, communication structures, technology, and organizational clarity necessary to effectively lead disciple-making ministries in a church of more than 3,000 in attendance.
