The Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve (FOCUS) North America is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of part time Center Director for its FOCUS San Diego ministry location.
FOCUS Center Directors have three core responsibilities, to (i) manage and grow a vibrant ministry to underprivileged individuals and families of the community by (ii) leading and building an engaged team of local volunteers and (iii) raising necessary funds by building relationships with supporters. They must possess cultural and socioeconomic sensitivity, as well as an understanding of the history, culture, and complexities of San Diego.
Beginning in 2028, FOCUS San Diego will occupy half of the first floor of a newly constructed building with space for ministry services and offices. Until then, the San Diego ministry will assume management of and continue an existing volunteer-led weekly food distribution to those around the 16th and Island area downtown, with anticipated preparation rge Serbian Orthodox Church. The ministry will also add on a monthly meal gory of Nyssa in East County to spur pan-Orthodox connection to further help develop the ministry in anticipation of having a dedicated space beginning in 2028.
The Center Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the local ministry including food and clothing distribution, volunteer coordination, Advisory Committee management, and partnerships with other local organizations. The Center Director will also work with the FOCUS North America Development Office to solicit donations and pursue grants to support and grow the ministry.
The position reports to the Director of Operations.
As an affiliated ministry of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, qualified candidates should have knowledge of and a willingness to work within the framework of the Orthodox Church. The ideal candidate will also possess the following experience and/or skill sets:
- Non-profit leadership experience;
- Experience managing a budget;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- A passion for service;
- A willingness and ability to solicit funds on behalf of the local ministry;
- An ability to work directly with those served by the ministry on a daily basis
- An ability to work cross jurisdictionally with local Orthodox parishes to engage volunteers to serve at the Center
FOCUS has a team of support staff who work with its Center Directors in the above efforts including marketing and social media communications, management of local center financial information, and overall clarity of work and mission. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is highly preferred.
