About ICA Fund

ICA Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating great businesses through mentorship and mission‑aligned investments that catalyze value in overlooked markets and transform communities. With a deep commitment to identifying, supporting, and helping grow small businesses run by underrepresented entrepreneurs, ICA innovates ways to leverage coaching, capital, and connections to amplify impact across communities. The organization is celebrating 30 years of impact and is entering its next chapter of growth and influence.

ICA Fund democratizes access to resources that catalyze value and growth in small businesses by offering targeted acceleration workshops, operating tools, and hands‑on advising from a network of highly experienced business operators. The organization focuses on economic mobility and entrepreneurship, positioning itself at the intersection of nonprofit work and impact investing. By combining mentorship with strategic capital deployment, ICA Fund works to remove barriers that underrepresented entrepreneurs face in accessing the resources needed to build sustainable, thriving businesses.

The organization operates from its headquarters in Oakland, California, and serves as a thought leader in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. ICA Fund maintains a portfolio of companies and provides comprehensive support systems designed to address gaps in traditional venture capital and business support networks. The organization’s approach recognizes that adequate, flexible, and sustained capitalization can fundamentally change organizational capabilities, economics, durability, and impact for both the fund and the entrepreneurs it serves.

About

this Role

ICA Fund is entering its next chapter of impact and is seeking an entrepreneurial, strategic, and relationship‑driven Chief Development and Communications Officer to help build the capital, visibility, and market presence required to realize that opportunity. This is not simply a fundraising role, but rather a strategic leadership position focused on articulating and advancing the enterprise‑capital case for ICA Fund’s next decade of growth.

The ideal candidate will move beyond an additive story of more products, more entrepreneurs, or broader geography to a multiplication story about how adequate, flexible, and sustained capitalization can fundamentally change the organization’s capabilities, economics, durability, and impact. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a member of the executive leadership team, the CDCO will develop and lead an integrated development, marketing, and communications strategy that positions ICA Fund for long‑term growth and impact.

The role will build the case for investing not only in annual programmatic needs, but also in the organizational capacity, talent, infrastructure, systems, and strategic capabilities that enable ICA Fund to multiply its impact over time. The ideal candidate is a strategic visionary with executional discipline and an entrepreneurial development spirit. They must have a keen ability to see around corners, build a compelling narrative and fundraising strategy, cultivate sophisticated relationships, and create the systems and operating rhythms required to execute at an executive level.

This position requires someone who can operate with significant autonomy while building infrastructure and systems from the ground up, and who can move fluidly between strategy and execution in a resource‑constrained, entrepreneurial environment while building toward enterprise scale.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead an integrated, multi‑year development strategy aligned with ICA’s strategic direction and next chapter of impact
  • In partnership with the CEO and Board, build a…
