The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands‑on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non‑profit, voluntary health organization.

Students will enhance their existing skill set by learning strategies to improve health outcomes in communities by providing support to help address CPR disparities, guidance, and Cardiac Emergency Response Planning. The student will also be responsible for general health promotion and community outreach events.

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

• Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment.
• Opportunity to explore a career-path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization.
• Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

• Assist with engaging companies and community organizations by providing lifesaving CPR awareness, education, or training.
• Assist with preparing companies and community organizations to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest emergency by ensuring measurable integration of AED access, CPR training policies, and Cardiac Emergency Response Plans.
• Assist the community impact team in communicating the impact of local work, particularly Nation of Lifesavers.
• Identify impact stories for showcasing, enhance via research and interviews, and develop communication pieces for online or offline sharing.
• Assist with internal program evaluations.
• Create and manage a volunteer database and communications; respond to volunteer inquiries with upcoming opportunities.
• Attend internal and external meetings as requested, including health fairs and community events as necessary which can include:
  Policy, Systems, and Environment change strategy implementation and Life’s Essential 8 presentations.
• Support the Omaha American Heart Association office as needed with activities related to our development campaigns and events.

• Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, community health, advocacy or other related degree program.
• Experience with public speaking and engaging with the community in group settings and 1 on 1.
• Willingness to travel to and from local community events and local meetings.
• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
