Salary : $20-23/Hour + Benefits, Non-Exempt

It is the Mission of Community Against Violence to foster and support a community free from all forms of domestic and sexual violence. CAV provides advocacy services, counseling and support groups, children’s programs, community prevention and outreach programs, and strives to provide information and resources for those in need. CAV also has an on-site emergency shelter for adults and their children and offers short and long-term transitional housing programs.

The Community Educator promotes community-wide violence prevention by addressing the root causes of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. This role delivers school-based trainings, community workshops, and outreach across Taos County, while strengthening partnerships and supporting efforts to end violence and uplift survivors.

Serve as a community educator for all CAV violence prevention and outreach programs throughout Taos County.

Provide prevention education to elementary, middle, and high schools; community agencies; alternative education settings; faith-based groups; businesses; and statewide anti-violence partners.

Assess classroom and audience needs; collaborate with supervisor and team on necessary curriculum adjustments.

Copy, prepare, and organize all written materials, handouts, and supplies for each program session.

Stay up to date on evidence-based sexual violence prevention strategies and best practices.

Research and recommend prevention approaches aligned with community readiness and needs.

Provide feedback on CAV curricula to strengthen program quality and effectiveness.

Support coordination of community-wide prevention events, workshops, and campaigns with partner organizations.

Represent CAV at school-based health fairs, community health fairs, information tables, and outreach booths.

Track inventory of educational and outreach materials; report needs to supervisor as required.

Submit all required forms—timesheets, mileage logs, etc.—in a timely manner.

Maintain strict confidentiality and follow all CAV policies.

Provide advocacy for survivors of domestic or sexual violence if needed.

Engage in supervision to understand the impacts of working with trauma survivors and proactively address compassion fatigue.

Participate in situational supervision and reflect on work impacts individually and within the team.

Attend staff meetings, in-service trainings, and agency trainings as required.

Participate in at least three agency events annually.

Support CAV fundraising activities and mission-driven community events.

Coordinate with other CAV program components and collaborate with NMCSAP Prevention staff to maintain strong partnerships.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director or supervisor.

High School Diploma/GED required.

Two (2) years of experience in domestic violence services or related prevention work.

Completion of 40 hours of provider-specific training upon hire, plus 20 hours of annual continuing education (e.g., NMCADV, CSVANW, VOCA, VAWA).

Experience in community organizing, youth engagement, public speaking, or education.

Knowledge of child development, abuse dynamics, and trauma-informed practices.

Strong communication, facilitation, organization, and follow-through skills.
