Job Summary
:
Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.
- Performs functions related to problem definition, data collection, interpretation and analysis.
- Implements and monitors patient care plans.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
- Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well‑coordinated patient care.
- Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
- Assesses and coordinates patient’s discharge planning needs with patient/family and members of the healthcare team.
- Assesses learning needs of patient and family and provides education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.
- Performs job duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
- Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
- Works under general supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Applies more advanced skills and knowledge in the area of specialization.
- Work Experience

No experience required. - Education
:
Associate’s degree or higher or Diploma in Nursing required upon hire;
Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing required within 5 years of employment.
- RN – Registered Nurse licensed in Kentucky required upon hire.
- BLS – Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required within 45 days of employment.
- ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required within 12 months of employment.
- PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required within 12 months of employment.
- Supports Owensboro Health’s Mission, Vision, Core Commitments, and business interests.
- Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures.
- Executes all tasks and behaves in a manner consistent with a culture of compliance, safety and a high reliability organization.
Clinical - Hospital:
Frequently standing, walking, and sitting; occasionally lifting 0–25 lbs. and 25–75 lbs.; rarely lifting or carrying over 75 lbs.; frequently pushing/pulling 0–25 lbs. and 25–75 lbs.; rarely over 75 lbs.; occasionally climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Frequently talking, hearing, using handheld devices, and data entry. Occasionally running. Requires vision with depth perception; sufficient to distinguish color, see far and near, and detect hazardous drug risk exposure.
