Job Summary- Administers prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations to residents and maintains related medical records under supervision of Nurse Supervisor.
- Ensures all care is provided in privacy.
- Ensures all protected health information is kept confidential.
- Reports all complaints, allegations of resident abuse or misappropriation of property to supervisor.
- Follows established safety policies and procedures, observes safety needs of residents, and uses safety equipment as indicated.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with approved techniques and notes time and amount on resident’s chart.
- Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms and records.
- Presents medication to residents and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures.
- Observes resident, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies Nurse Supervisor or Physician of resident’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered and reports to nursing supervisor.
- Records and restocks medication inventories.
- Prepares equipment and aids physicians during treatments and examination of residents.
- Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and determines progress of residents.
- Checks residents in section regularly; answers call light promptly; follows through with resident problems or needs by delivering care or reporting to supervisor depending upon level of ability and nature of resident need.
- Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required.
- Certified as required by state law.
- Previous experience in long-term care preferred.
Lift up to 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds; reach, handle, feel, see.
