How you make a differenceThe Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner follows established policies and procedures and state guidelines, ensuring compliance with supervision requirements through proper documentation. They provide psychiatric consultation, diagnostic, treatment, and medication management services to patients, including crisis intervention services. Overall, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in providing quality mental health care to patients.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive assessments, implement and evaluate individualized plans of care, and monitor medication and treatment protocols in accordance with established policies and procedures and state guidelines.
- Document all relevant patient care issues, including observations and interventions, in progress notes and treatment plans that are problem-oriented, legible, and compliant with documentation requirements.
- Provide individualized care and treatment that is culturally sensitive and age appropriate, and participate in the psychiatric on call schedule if required.
- Adhere to established formulary procedures for therapeutic regimens, and support standards of psychiatric care through adherence to policies and procedures for admission and transfer, utilization review, and referrals.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, and provide input into mandatory committees as requested by superiors.
- Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Psychiatric experience preferred and/or experience in a residential healthcare institution.
- Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice highly desired.
- Must maintain CPR certification, and any other certifications (such as First Aid) required by contract.
