Atlantic Group is hiring a School Nurse (Registered Nurse) for our client, a well-established nonprofit organization supporting children with autism and developmental disabilities. This position will provide healthcare services to preschool and school-aged students in a school-based setting, promoting student health, safety, and well-being while collaborating with educators, families, and healthcare providers. The organization is open to both temporary and permanent candidates, as well as full-time and part-time schedules.
Responsibilities as the School Nurse (Registered Nurse):
- Student Health Services: Provide first aid, assess acute illnesses and injuries, administer prescribed medications, and respond to medical emergencies during the school day.
- Health Monitoring: Monitor student health records, immunization compliance, chronic medical conditions, and maintain accurate medical documentation.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with parents, physicians, teachers, school leadership, and outside healthcare providers to support students' ongoing healthcare needs.
- Health
Education:
Support health and wellness initiatives by providing health counseling, assisting with health education programs, and promoting healthy practices within the school community. - Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with school policies, state regulations, medication administration requirements, and reporting obligations, including communicable diseases and mandated reporting.
- School
Collaboration:
Participate in team meetings, contribute to school health initiatives, support students with chronic health conditions, and assist in developing a safe and healthy learning environment.
Qualifications for the School Nurse (Registered Nurse):
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.
- Experience: 2–4 years of nursing experience is required. Prior experience in school nursing, pediatrics, behavioral health, developmental disabilities, or community health is preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience supporting pediatric populations, students with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, or special education settings is preferred.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic medical records is preferred. Knowledge of medication administration, immunization compliance, and school health regulations is required. - Skills & Attributes: Strong clinical judgment, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and provide compassionate, student-centered care in a school environment.
