Description:SUMMARY:
A professional Registered Nurse with in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill and competency that serves as a business partner and resource in the healthcare setting and supports nurse and other clinical development and training initiatives. This position participates in the development of nursing, clinical and advanced practice education and programs that facilitate forward movement in healthcare. Acts as a change agent by suggesting new or innovative approaches based on evidence-based nursing practices that result in improvements in quality outcomes and patient safety.
Organizes new employee orientation on unit by scheduling preceptors and times, intermittent follow-up, and providing oversight of orientation and competency of unit staff. Implements alternative and varied teaching strategies to meet learner needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, coordinates, and facilitates comprehensive onboarding and orientation programs for new clinical employees. Provides computer training, facility tours, introductions to key personnel, and serves as an ongoing resource to support successful transition into practice.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates structured onboarding programs for new graduate nurses, including oversight of the Nurse Residency Program, competency validation, and completion of 90-day orientation and skills checklists.
- Provides hands-on clinical education and simulation/skills lab training with an emphasis on high-risk, high-volume, and regulatory-required clinical procedures.
- Collaborates with department managers and directors to evaluate orientee progress, provide regular feedback, and recommend individualized learning plans or additional educational support when needed.
- Coordinates and communicates on-the-job training (OJT) schedules in collaboration with Nursing Administration and department leadership.
- Develops, maintains, and administers Health Stream learning assignments for employee onboarding, annual mandatory education, competency validation, and regulatory compliance.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and continuously improves orientation, competency assessment, cross-training, and continuing education programs for clinical staff to support evidence-based practice, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinates and oversees all student clinical rotations, including partnerships with Pittsburg State University, Labette Community College, and other educational institutions. Maintains required affiliation documentation, student access, instructor communication, and coordinates high school shadowing experiences.
- Collaborates with nursing leadership to coordinate the LPN Training Program, including participant onboarding, scheduling, competency validation, and successful transition into licensed practice.
- Designs, develops, and coordinates continuing education opportunities, including CEU offerings, in collaboration with department leaders to support new equipment implementation, clinical protocols, policy updates, regulatory requirements, and professional development.
- Partners with physician leadership to assess the educational needs of medical staff and advanced practice providers. Coordinates Grand Rounds, CME opportunities, and external educational resources as appropriate.
- Coordinates and provides American Heart Association resuscitation education, including BLS, ACLS, PALS, and other certification courses as required to maintain staff competency and compliance.
- Supports facility-wide educational initiatives, competency programs, and regulatory readiness efforts while serving as an educational resource across departments.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. MSN or related preferred..
- Hospital experience required as an RN in ICU, ED, or Medical Surgical. Five (5) years in other clinical setting will be considered.
- Current valid license as a Registered Nurse in Kansas
- BLS required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
- Previous knowledge Nurse Practice Act, federal, state and local requirements
- Working knowledge of the use of establishing clinical and preceptorship models in the development of clinical education programs
