The Nurse Manager works with all staff, management, and leadership to assure high quality, safe nursing practices are conducted at TGC, leading to superior health outcomes for all TGC members. The Nurse Manager assists Inpatient and Outpatient Nursing teams with member care, training, education, and team building, and assists Director of Nursing with assigned administrative responsibilities. The Nurse Manager assures compassionate, trauma-informed high-quality care is always provided to members.
This position drives improvement and efficiency standards applicable to areas of responsibility including but not limited to access to care, staffing/workload management and quality metrics.
- Monitors staff and patient ratios to ensure adequate staffing of psychiatric hospital, crisis stabilization unit, and outpatient nursing in order to promote safety and efficiency of these units.
- Inform Director of Nursing of any insufficiencies thus meeting licensure and quality standards through development and maintenance of staffing, schedules, on-call system, and patient flow analytics.
- Adapts scheduling of unit staff to provide adequate coverage for acuity census management, admission/discharge flow, and assignment of member supervision levels and charge nurse responsibilities.
- Ensures adherence to Applicable Nursing Standards of Practice.
- Oversee the safety of staff and members on the units through daily unit monitoring and inspections as required by policy, licensure, and Joint Commission regulations.
- Develop mechanisms to track and maintain compliance of medication orders and administration as ordered; lab draws completed and results received with critical lab results being reported to the attending medical practitioner as per policy.
- Assist staff members, specialists, consultants, and members of the treatment team to achieve patient outcomes.
- Monitors and trains staff.
- Assist Director of Nursing and agency leadership with the development of clinical plans and pathways for the management of maladaptive dangerous behaviors to reduce the number of seclusions/restraints, length of stay and facilitate appropriate bed management.
- Performs departmental audits to ensure medication orders and administration are completed as ordered.
- Develops and maintains processes and procedures to seamlessly link internal and external referral sources and data sources, including TGC crisis services, residential treatment services, dietary services, primary care, housing, and other health care providers.
- Ensures that members are admitted and discharged efficiently and effectively through pathways developed with internal and external referral sources.
- Coordinates with Genoa pharmacy contractors to provide timely, accurate, and cost-effective medication stock.
- Identifies and addresses problems and questions presented by RN staff regarding work related procedures/policies.
- Ensures medical practitioners can assess members through application of telemedicine when necessary to provide adequate coverage for acuity census management and admission flow.
- Participate in performance improvement activities through goal setting, training, and monitoring.
- Assists with development of policies and procedures as assigned by Director of Nursing or Leadership.
- Ensures environmental and safety standards of the units are met, including cleanliness, sanitation, and supplies by enforcing and adhering to policies, procedures, standards, rules, and legal regulations; by participating in utilization and quality reviews; and by utilizing trauma-informed perspective.
- Provides input on the decisions of hiring, and employee evaluations as directed by the Director of Nursing or agency leadership.
- Improves staff competence by providing leadership, training, and discussions regarding evidence-based practices/best practices on wellness, quality nursing, and behavioral healthcare.
- Develop team building opportunities and performs exercises quarterly to strengthen the team.
- Formulates committees in efforts to encourage staff input into the decision-making process.
