Work Schedule

Part-time days, 4 hours per week

The Vascular Access Registered Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of advanced vascular access devices (PICC, midline, ultrasound guided PIV’s). Serves as a clinical resource and consultant to other healthcare professionals and will collaborate, coordinate and educate as needed to enhance excellence in the delivery of high quality patient care.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists nursing staff in assessing patient’s IV access for appropriateness related to a patient’s medications, diagnosis, presenting condition, vascular integrity and projected plan of care
  • Provides consultation, education, and/or assistance to staff, regarding management of vascular access devices. Including patient/family education
  • Rounds on all nursing units to assist staff with identifying patients who may need mid to long-term vascular access.
  • Assist staff with troubleshooting issues related to vascular access devices
  • Places PICC’s Long dwell midline catheters, and ultrasound guided peripheral IV catheters.
  • Assists staff with blood specimen collection on difficult venous access patients
  • Demonstrates competency is vein selection, sterile process, and use of Sapiens technology and care of the patient post procedure
  • Provides in-services for staff as needed, to ensure current knowledge and competence in vascular access devices
  • Assists with implanted port access/de-access and dialysis catheter access, management and troubleshooting
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Stand for up to 4 hours a day.
  • Walk up to 4 hours a day.
  • Consistently lift, carry and push objects.
  • Positioning of patients while in bed and out in chair.
  • Frequently stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level.
Education
  • Current RN License required.
  • Successful completion of PICC and Midline training
  • Implanted port and Dialysis catheter competency validation on a periodic basis
  • VA-BC preferred.
Training and Experience
  • Minimum 2 years in acute care hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with ultrasound guided IV techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
